A pregnant woman gives birth to her own twins. According to a fresh report on the infant's case, a newborn born in Hong Kong was pregnant with her own siblings at the time of her delivery. The baby's condition, known as fetus-in-fetu, is very unusual, occurring in only 1 in every 500,000 births. It's not obvious why this happens. Perhaps it's a mistake by the mother during fetal development. Her body apparently tries to fix this problem by giving birth to two babies at once.
This case shows that even though mothers usually give birth to only one child, they can still have more than one fetus inside them. The same thing can happen after a pregnancy; women who have had multiple births before are likely to give birth to more than one baby at a time afterward. This may not seem like a big deal unless both babies are alive and healthy when they're born.
The presence of twin embryos or fetuses inside a single mother's womb has been documented in laboratory animals. Scientists have found evidence of multiple pregnancies in about 10 of 100 rats and mice. In people, there are reports of twins being born to single mothers but these cases are rare. It's possible that some women do not know they are pregnant with their own twins until after the first trimester, by which time it is too late for them to receive medical help.
Women who want to avoid multiple births should consider using contraception to prevent further pregnancies while they wait to see if their original fetus(es) will survive.

Why does it happen? There are several theories about this condition, but the most common one is that it occurs when the blood vessels inside the fetus itself break down, allowing parts of the body to bleed into each other.
Fetus in fetu has been reported after the first month of pregnancy and up until three years old. The only way to know for sure if your child is born with twins is to have more children. If you have another child before the first year is up, then you will know that you can give birth to twins.
The symptoms of fetus in fetu are also not clear yet. However, since it contains organs such as brain, heart, lungs, and bones, it may seem healthy at first glance. But later, when these tissues begin to grow, they can cause problems for the child's health. Problems can include large tumors forming in the fetus, mental retardation, and limb deformities. Although many babies with this problem survive, some do not.
The only way to cure fetus in fetu is to remove all of its contents entirely. This includes the entire unborn twin as well as the surrounding tissue.
A twofold pregnancy, or superfetation, is exceedingly rare—there are no statistics on how frequently it occurs—but it is technically conceivable. We're not suggesting you should be concerned about it occurring to you; rather, you can't claim it's impossible. This is why.

Twins are born vaginally and by cesarean section. This is a somewhat uncommon occurrence. Only around 4% of all twin deliveries include one infant being born vaginally and the second twin being delivered through cesarean. Factors such as maternal age, body mass index (BMI), history of previous cesareans, and fetal position influence whether vaginal delivery is an option for twins.
Vaginal births are possible for twins if they are born close together. The babies should be allowed to breathe on their own after birth without being placed in an incubator, since this is not recommended for multiple births. Breastfeeding after vaginal birth is safe for both mothers and infants. Mothers who have a cesarean section can breastfeed their infants surgically implanted tubes rather than directly from the breast, but they should discuss this possibility with their doctors first since it isn't standard practice for all women who have cesareans to be able to do so.
Women who want to give birth naturally may choose a waterbirth if available. In this type of delivery, the mother stays in the bath or shower until she gives birth, which helps her stay relaxed and comfortable. She will also need support from loved ones outside of the tub during labor as well as after the baby is born.
Twins are a somewhat uncommon occurrence. However, some families appear to defy the odds by having many multiples. A British woman recently made news when she gave birth to her second pair of twins at the age of 21. When her first pair of twins, a boy and a girl, were four years old, their newborn sisters came. Such families may have a chance of another set of twins if they use effective contraception after the first set.
The chances of conceiving multiple births are very low. But because of this rarity, many doctors will offer advice on how to improve your odds of having a baby with one or more other babies. They may suggest that you plan pregnancy so that you give birth to children one at a time, rather than all at once. This is called "sequential reproduction." You and your doctor can discuss ways to do this, such as using birth control for several months then stopping it for a few months before starting it again. If you and your partner know what methods of contraception work for you both, choose one that fits with your lifestyle and that you feel comfortable using regularly.
Some women who want more than one child may be able to have them simultaneously. This procedure, called "multiple gestation," is used to create living twins, triplets, and even more. It can also be done with frozen embryos or eggs that have been frozen before they were fertilized. But this is only possible if all of the embryos or eggs are ready at once.
